The last class of every month, actors will be paired with a guest director and work a scene. Mr. Bach will moderate these scenes.

Wednesdays – 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. By audition only / completion of STAGE ONE workshop.

TRADITIONAL SCENE STUDY

Actor/Teacher

This is the first part of our work in class, which means selecting material, partners, rehearsing, costumes props, etc. This is the core of your creative work, what you put into it you will get out of it, what you give me I will give you. It all depends on your willingness to commit, if you don’t work, I can’t.

There are thousands of scripts to choose from both film and theatre, remember good movies and movies you like doesn’t necessarily mean good learning scenes. Some times bad movies have good scenes, especially if you can best them. I have several, good and bad I can recommend. Please do not let type (FIMP differences) hold you back from working, keep in mind, I watch VIPES not FIMPS when I’m working with you. For instance, “I’m much too old to play McCloed, Staples, Polo, but I would just to learn how to play those colors, it’s a stretching out for your VIPE, exercises for eventually playing your type and age range. Keep your mind “open & empty.”

When you pick a theatre scene, which is totally different from a film script, I will show you how to design and re-structure for film acting, how to cut the fat, simplify and eliminate which I learned under duress and perfected as a Director or suffer the pain of losing the audience.

I will cover the importance of knowing how to reach an audience through giving the director exactly what they want without compromising your creative process, again this was a “do or die” situation for me, losing the actors results in losing the audience. Also we will cover how to target the audience’s ability to sustain the three things they must do to stay involved, “See, Listen and Feel.” Finally how to tap the source, “The Artistic Soul” and use the physical to emerge that source into your work.

We will be doing work no other workshop is doing, Why? I do not think work or teach as an actor, I’m a Director and it is the audience who I bow to. Second, my classes are small, meaning more personal attention, no levels, everyone working towards one goal. I see individuals not a classroom full of students trying “to please.” But, that also means I can spot the “Bullshit” and when I catch an actor bullshiting their next commitment is “digging my foot out of their ass.”

I’m here to work and that work means being completely honest, getting your VIPE places you didn’t know existed. My goal for you is…CONFIDENCE, your goal is…STAMINA. You will need a tremendous amount of “Patience,” patience leads to “TRUST,” trust leads to “CONFIDENCE.”

I just finished patting myself on the back, but that bragging was meant for my confidence in “my work,” not me. Hopefully someday you will be as bold to brag about “your work,” let the mediocre brag about themselves.
